Harriet Vaughan

Harriet Sprague Doolittle Vaughan, 65, of Narragansett, RI and Englewood, Fl, passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. She was the wife of Wheaton Carr Vaughan. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Duncan Hunter Doolittle and Anne Watson Lewis Baker.

Harriet enjoyed cooking, knitting, and ancestry research. She often employed, and used with pride, the job description, ‘Independent Research Professional’ and spent countless hours uncovering details about her ancestors, adding color and depth to the names and dates on record. She was extremely generous with her time and talents assisting others in tracing their respective family roots and heritage. Her documentation was extensive and impeccable; she transferred this into books and generously made copies for each of her siblings.

She loved to entertain before her health began to decline. Harriet would host lavish cocktail parties, dinner parties, holiday gatherings; and in most cases she’d prepare the food herself.

She enjoyed participating as a volunteer in community activities, serving as a teachers assistant at Wakefield Elementary, for many years.  More recently she filled the position/s of Co-Chair/Chair of the South County Hospital Annual Hospital Ball for two years, successfully helping to raise funds for the hospital’s benefit.

Besides her husband she is survived by her daughter Neamat Rebecca Adams and her grandchildren Andrew Duncan Adams and Matthew Adams, her daughter Alana Rosch, step children Lincoln Vaughan and Kirk Vaughan, and siblings Will Doolittle, Abby Doolittle, Elisha Doolittle, and Nicole Nomer.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2018 at 10am in St. Peters By the Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St, Narragansett, RI.  Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.  For guest book and condolences, averystortifuneralhome.com
