Katie Fanneron and Anthony Foster met through mutual friends at a popular bar in New Jersey near their home, in January 2011. On Memorial Day weekend each year after that, the couple — an elementary school music teacher and heating and air conditioning system salesman — vacationed in Lake George, New York, and would always take a picture in a photo booth there. On May 25, 2013, Anthony proposed in that photo booth.
Katie’s parents own a summer home with another family on Harbour Island in Narragansett, and South County drew them in with its options for a country, rustic, chic wedding. The Farmer’s Daughter in South Kingstown “has a beautiful botanical garden-type look, and we were able to create a fantasy tented wedding, and use everything we wanted while incorporating a beautiful background,” the bride says.
They chose mint, coral, aqua, yellow and gray as the color palette for their farm wedding, with the men wearing gray pants with suspenders and mint and white ties, and the bridesmaids wearing mint green chiffon dresses. After losing 30 pounds, the bride replaced her original gown three months before the wedding with a lace and chiffon gown from David’s Bridal that featured a sweetheart neckline and buttons down the back. “It was more fitted and something I’d imagined my whole life,” the bride says.
The afternoon ceremony welcomed 145 guests. The bride and bridesmaids carried floral arrangements of cheery sunflowers and daisies, and the bride’s uncle provided musical accompaniment on guitar. At the reception under the tent, mason jars were filled with lemons and limes and white wax flowers and sunflowers to serve as centerpieces. Guests were treated to appetizers of bleu cheese and fig crostinis, spinach and goat cheese pizza and coconut shrimp, before a buffet dinner of grilled chicken and teriyaki-glazed steak tips, baked stuffed scrod with Lobster Newburg sauce, and farfalle primavera, vegetables and mini-desserts. Their two-tiered red velvet wedding cake topped with fondant flowers was surrounded by 225 mini-cupcakes in an assortment of flavors: chocolate amaretto, lemon raspberry and chocolate raspberry.
After dinner, Mr. and Mrs. Foster danced their first dance to “My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw, before leaving for a honeymoon in Aruba. Their advice to couples planning a long-distance wedding in South County? “I highly suggest working with a planner to help give advice about choosing vendors who will work with your wedding ideas.”
