The President of the United States can order a military strike on a foreigner in another country, killing that person without a trial (and killing anyone standing nearby), and that’s OK.

But if the President of the United States asks another world leader to check into whether a US citizen in that foreign country is doing anything illegal? Oh, that’s terrible!  That’s abuse of power and position!  That’s unconstitutional!  Impeach him!  That requires hours of Congressional testimony.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Senator Jack Reed, Congressman James Langevin, Congressman David Cicilline, please, do you think I’m stupid?  Where’s the hours of Congress working on immigration reform or any number of other issues?
